Are you struggling to find the motivation to d-clutter? You’re not alone! We often put off organizing because we think it will take too much time. But the truth is, de-cluttering doesn’t have to be overwhelming. You can start anytime—right now—with just a garbage bag and a box for donations.
In this blog, I’ll show you how I went from procrastinating to de-cluttering two drawers in less than 20 minutes, and how you can do the same!
Start Anytime—Yes, Even Right Now!
De-cluttering doesn’t require a full weekend or a massive cleanup session. You can start small. Grab a garbage bag and a box, and choose one simple area—a drawer, a shelf, or even just a countertop.
✅ Garbage bag: Toss expired, broken, or useless items.
✅ Donation box: Anything still in good condition but not needed goes here.
That’s it! One small task at a time can snowball into real progress.
How to Get Motivated to De-clutter (Even When You Don’t Feel Like It)
I get it—some days, you just don’t have the energy. But let me share how I got motivated with one simple trick: setting a micro-goal.
My 10-Minute De-clutter Challenge
I had two drawers that desperately needed to be de-cluttered, but I had been avoiding them. Then, while making tea, I thought:
"You have 5 minutes while the water boils—get up and do a drawer!"
The Results:
📸 1:47 PM – Took a “before” photo of my messy drawer.
📸 1:50 PM – Removed the top layer and sorted through items.
📸 1:55 PM – Finished de-cluttering, tossed trash, and put things in their right place.

It took less than 10 minutes! That quick success gave me the motivation to tackle the second drawer.
📸 2:01 PM – Started de-cluttering the next drawer.
📸 2:10 PM – Finished sorting, tossing, and organizing everything.
Before 2:01 pm
After 2:10 pm
💡 Lesson learned? We put things off thinking they’ll take forever, but in reality, most small tasks take just a few minutes.
Why De-cluttering Makes Your Life Easier
De-cluttering isn’t just about having a tidy home—it’s about reducing stress, saving time, and starting your day on a positive note. When I wake up tomorrow, I won’t be searching for items or dealing with messy drawers. Instead, everything will be in its place, and my morning will be smoother.
And the best part? That first small success motivates you to keep going.
Your Turn: Take the 10-Minute De-clutter Challenge!
✨ Right now, set a timer for 10 minutes.
✨ Pick one small area—a junk drawer, your nightstand, or a shelf.
✨ Take a before-and-after photo (trust me, it’s motivating!).
✨ Toss the trash, donate what you don’t need, and put things where they belong.
🚨 One Important Rule: Don’t Make Piles! 🚨
When de-cluttering, avoid creating piles of things to “deal with later.” If something doesn’t belong in that space, take it to its proper spot before moving on. That way, when you’re done, you have no overwhelming piles left—just a clean space. You can stop at any time with nothing left to do but take out the trash! 🗑️
You don’t need a perfect plan to start de-cluttering—you just need to start! One small step today will help you build momentum for tomorrow.
